Toose Road landslip April 2024 update

Work has continued to progress on this project, which remains of the highest priority for Council. The current focus is securing project funding, with Transport for NSW receiving the final Toose Road Access Options Study combined with a request for funding.

Council has finalised a long term options report regarding the Toose Road landslip with options including the community raised option at Pee Dee Creek, which has been investigated from an engineering perspective and costed appropriately.

An update on the Toose Road landslip: acquisition of crown land

Council has resolved to proceed with the compulsory acquisition of the Crown Road adjoining Lot 5 DP 752421 for the purpose of the construction of a new road at Bellbrook NSW.

Toose Road landslip update and $28k in community grants

At the May Council Meeting, Councillors will receive a report on the Toose Road Landslip and works carried out by Council staff, and will also discuss the awarding of $28,104.84 in grants to 18 community groups.

Council is awaiting a response from the ADF regarding options to construct a temporary stock bridge to assist in transporting cattle to market.
Resilience NSW is liaising directly with Local Land Services regarding a temporary upgrade of cattle yards on Travelling Stock Route (TSR) by Five Day Creek (#R1002042).

Support remains a priority for those cut off by Toose Road landslip

Despite the efforts of Council who are working daily alongside other agencies to reinstate access and support those affected, properties remain cut off on the far side of the Toose Road landslip.

Progress has again been slow since the last update particularly on the final portion of cut 3. The rock experienced at the top of Cut 3 has been challenging as expected and advised in previous updates.

Today’s (June 30) scheduled air resupply has been postponed due to forecasted showers.
The pilot is in direct contact with the recipient to coordinate this transport of 30 tonnes of dry feed.

Progress has been pleasing since the last update, with our crews able to make significant inroads on Fifes Creek Road. The rock experienced at the top of Cut 3 has been challenging as expected, progress has slowed since hitting the high-strength material however progress continues.

As per previous updates, initial Geophysics investigations have occurred at the slip site using ground penetrating radar. Unfortunately, there was no rock found to 15 metres which confirms a short-term repair solution is not feasible at the slip site.

Resilience NSW has confirmed an air supply drop of fodder for Thursday 2 June, utilising a sling to transport bulky goods. Residents will be responsible for the provision of mechanical assistance to load and unload these bulk goods.

The most viable short term access route identified will connect Fifes Creek Road to Toose Road via the Telstra telecommunications tower.
Construction progress of this route has been delayed due to the recent rainfall. However, it is anticipated that work will recommence this week with council staff due to inspect the site May 19.

As requested by residents, Council arranged a peer review and second opinion of the geotechnical investigation into the slip site.
Regional Geotech Solutions report is attached to this update. The report is based on a detailed field inspection and peer review of the original GHD report.
