Waste Vouchers

At Kempsey Shire Council, we are committed to providing efficient waste management services to our residents.

As part of our ongoing efforts, we are pleased to announce the introduction of new waste vouchers for the upcoming financial year. These revamped vouchers now feature a convenient QR code, making waste disposal even more streamlined and accessible.

How do I get the voucher?

Two vouchers will be included in the first rates notice which will be sent out in July for all property owners that have a garbage service included in their rates notice.

How does it work?

The waste voucher system entitles the owner of residential property within the Kempsey Shire Council area to two Waste Disposal Vouchers. These vouchers are specifically issued against the residential property and are not transferable to residents of another property.

We ask landlords to pass on the vouchers to their tenants, ensuring that everyone can benefit from this service.

How do I use the voucher?

Simply present the single-use voucher at the waste facility gatehouse. A friendly staff member will be available to assess your load and guide you through the process.

Please note that charges for commercial waste disposal will apply separately.

What can I dispose of with a voucher?

The single-use vouchers are valid for the disposal of self-hauled domestic mixed waste or domestic green waste up to the value of $38.50 per visit.

This means that you can conveniently dispose of your household waste or green waste at any of Kempsey Shire Council's waste facilities, without incurring any additional charges up to the specified value.

What can’t I dispose of with a voucher?

While the new waste vouchers cover a wide range of waste disposal needs, it's important to note that certain items are not eligible for disposal using these vouchers.

Items such as tyres, mattresses, solar panels, asbestos, regulated waste, commercial waste, or dead animals will continue to incur a cost for disposal as per Council's Waste Disposal Fees Schedule.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to these guidelines.

Do they last all year?

The new waste vouchers are valid until 30 June 2024. Therefore, you can make the most of these vouchers throughout the next financial year. After this date, expired vouchers cannot be redeemed.

What about recyclables?

In our commitment to environmental sustainability, we request residents separate recyclable items from general waste. Clean containers, cardboard and paper can then be disposed of for free without a voucher.

By doing so, we can minimise the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and contribute to a cleaner, greener future for our community.

What else is free to dispose of without a voucher?

Domestic quantities of the following recyclables can be disposed of at our centres for free, subject to approval & quality, at any time without a voucher:

  • Recyclables – clean containers, cardboard & paper
  • Fluorescent lighting (globes/ tubes)
  • Mobile Phones & accessories
  • Electronic waste (E-Waste) – computers, monitors, fax machines, scanners, printers, televisions
  • Gas Bottles/ Fire Extinguishers
  • Household Chemicals and Paint
