Types of Waste Materials

Unsorted Waste

Waste that is not sorted or separated, and which contains recoverable recyclable material. Unsorted waste also includes failing to deposit each kind of source separated waste materials. Higher charges apply.

Recyclables

Waste which is separated from acceptable waste and collected, sorted, stored, processed, and redistributed so as to return such material to the marketplace for reuse or resale.

  • Co-mingle such as clean paper, cardboard, bottles, cans and empty recyclable containers
  • CRC material (sheet metal)

Construction and Demolition Waste

Any waste sourced from the construction, remodelling or repair of individual residences, buildings and other structures that cannot be recycled on site, including but not limited to:

  • Insulation
  • Lumber
  • Treated wood
  • Painted wood
  • Wiring
  • Plastics
  • Packaging
  • Rubble eg. bricks and concrete
  • Remodelling
  • Demolition operations on house, commercial or industrial buildings or other structure

Commercial and Industrial Waste

Any waste, either organic or inorganic, whose source is from commercial or profitable business sites or as a result of the following activities:

  • Manufacturing and industrial processes
  • Wholesale or retail trading
  • Sorting, resource recovery, reprocessing and recycling operations
  • Activities carried out at a domestic premises under a commercial arrangement
  • Accommodation services
  • Hospitality services, including catering
  • Primary industries, including agricultural, forestry and fishing
  • Educational services
  • Activities carried out by charities
  • Activities carried out by churches
  • Organising concerts and other entertainment events
  • Other business activities including administrative services

Green Waste

Waste that decays naturally and in a way that is not harmful to the environment.

  • Natural
  • Untreated timber (includes untreated pallets)
  • Lawn clippings
  • Garden waste
  • Waste from tree pruning and other plant material
  • Tree stumps

Metal

Ferrous and non-ferrous metallic material including but not limited to:

  • Sheetmetal, siding, roofing, and flashing
  • Metal window frames, pipes, and bathtubs
  • Fencing and wire
  • White goods and non-scheme e-waste material
  • Wire and cabling
  • Cylinders
  • Metal furniture and tyre rims
  • Car parts and car bodies
  • Machinery and bicycle frames

Clean Fill

Clay, topsoil or gravel. Council will need confirmation the material is clean and where it has come from before accepting clean fill material.

Special Burial

Any landfill waste material needing immediate, confidential burial and covering by special appointment.
