Northern Regional Planning Panel

In New South Wales, regional planning panels provide independent, merit-based decision making and advice to the Minister for Planning on regionally significant development proposals.

Kempsey Shire falls within the Northern Regional Planning Panel.

What kind of development does the Northern Regional Planning Panel determine?

The Northern Regional Planning Panel:

  • determines regionally significant development applications (DAs), certain other DAs and section 4.55(2) and section 4.56 modification applications
  • undertakes rezoning reviews
  • provides advice on other planning and development matters when requested
  • determines site compatibility certificates under the State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing for Seniors or People with a Disability) 2004

How does the Northern Regional Planning Panel operate?

When Kempsey Shire Council assesses a development application that is regionally significant, the Council officer’s assessment report and recommendations will be referred to the Northern Regional Planning Panel to make a determination.
