Travelling stock reserves provide pasture reserves for travelling or grazing stock. These reserves can be a source of emergency grazing in a drought, bushfire or flood.
The shire has 18 refuges belonging to Local Land Services, Roads and Maritime Services, Kempsey Shire Council and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. The Emergency Stock Refuges map(PDF, 2MB) shows these locations.
Kempsey Shire Council is working to increase understanding of the importance and potential of these reserves across the shire and promote the shared and sustainable use of the network in emergencies.
