Summary

Maria River Road is a 30km length of road linking Crescent Head and Port Macquarie.

Safety concerns have long been held about the unsealed portion of the road, which spans 25km and deterioriates in wet weather conditions.

Kempsey Shire Council and Port Macquarie Hastings Council have undertaken to jointly upgrade the road.

Funding

Kempsey Shire Council and Port Macquarie Hastings Council made a joint funding application under the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads program in December 2019.

On 9 July 2020, it was announced that the joint funding application was successful in securing the $17 million required for the upgrade.

Status

Port Macquarie Hastings Council will be managing the project. For more information, including forecast delivery dates, see the Maria River Road Upgrade Project page on the Port Macquarie Hastings Council website.
