What is happening during National Reconciliation Week?

The 2021 National Reconciliation Week theme is ‘More than a word. Reconciliation takes action’ and encourages all Australians to think about how they can move towards braver and more impactful action.

Reconciliation Australia has said the ‘Reconciliation movement is at a tipping point’, with people understanding the truths and speaking up on concerns affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Moving towards a braver reconciliation requires a vision for what an equitable and reconciled Australia looks like.

What’s Happening Locally?

• Cultural Weaving Workshops with South West Rocks Dunghutti Weaver Nancy Pattison
• Unveiling of a Coroborree mosaic in the Kempsey CBD in partnership with a local artist, Elders and community organisations - Thursday 3rd June.
• Council is also working closely with the Thunggutti Local Aboriginal Land Council, SPADCO (Stuarts Point and District Community Organisation) and local community in Bellbrook and Stuarts Point areas to develop cultural projects in the spirit of Reconciliation.

Council have commenced work on the first part of our Reconciliation Action Plan which is a framework that helps Council to support the national reconciliation movement.
