Seniors Festival

I look forward to opening day of the Macleay Seniors Festival every year. I relish the chance to get together with the Senior community in our Shire and the opportunity to pause to celebrate just how strong, vibrant and connected we all are.

This Tuesday, 13 April, marks the start of 12 days of activities designed for seniors of all abilities.

The festival begins with a morning tea at the Slim Dusty Centre and a tour of the Black Summer and Beyond photo exhibition. I'll be there and I hope you will join me, but that is only the beginning.

The program this year is packed with activities as well as discounts on services such as manicures, pedicures and crafts. The wide assortment of free activities includes tech help at the Kempsey Library, exercise classes, and instructional sessions on topics such as how to research your family history or a special behind-the-scenes peek at our local radio station, Tank FM.

I am sure there is something in it for everyone this year!

Look through the full program on the Kempsey Council website for more information and a complete list of activities.

I hope to see you at morning tea on opening day.

Youth Week

At the same time, let us not forget those who represent the future of our community. This week also marks the start of Macleay 2021 Youth Week.

It is so rewarding to watch the diverse collection of young people in our community get together for activities such as those included in this year’s program.

From the looks of it, the local businesses and services have really come together this year to plan some wonderful free activities and discounts for young people to explore new places and experience new things together.

The week’s events include yoga and surf lessons at Surfaris in Crescent Head, a community garden planting day, discounted coffee and brekky rolls from local cafes, a mountain bike skill-building session, and a bike maintenance workshop at the Kempsey Skate Park, to name just a few.

The program for Youth Week 2021 includes details for all the activities taking place from 16-24 April and is available on the Kempsey Council website.

Take care and enjoy!
