From the Mayor's Desk: School holiday fun at the Kempsey Library

Published on 21 June 2021

Mayor Liz Campbell at a school holiday event

In line with advice from NSW Health, Kempsey Library's school holiday events have been postponed.

Kempsey Library is a sensational place on a regular day, so much more than just books on a shelf. Then the school holidays arrive and our Library truly comes alive. So I’m very excited to share the upcoming holiday activities with you.

Bookings are essential for Kempsey Library school holidays events, so please visit ksc.pub/library-events to find out more.

Bird brains workshop – Thursday 1 July

We live in a beautiful part of Australia with truly stunning birdlife throughout the Macleay. Rainbow lorikeets soar in flocks above us while pink galahs forage through grasslands of our Shire.

Come celebrate all the beautiful birds by attending the Library’s Birds Brain Workshop. You will learn to create a bird feeder for your backyard using all-natural materials. Another delightful activity for children will be learning to paint with watercolours, with tips on how to capture the stunning colours of our native birds.

Help us paint a mural – Tuesday 6 July

All residents are invited to help paint a mural at the Wigay Aboriginal Culture Park, as part of the NAIDOC Week celebrations and supported by Kempsey Shire Library.

This great event is family-friendly, so bring the everyone along and learn from our incredible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community while contributing to this beautiful mural, reflecting on the beautiful flora and fauna of our local area.

Superhero training – Wednesday 7 July (2 sessions)

I love the diverse range of activities the Kempsey Library offers our community. For example the two superhero training sessions these school holidays, where children will be jumping from wall to wall performing as their favourite comic characters. You never know, we might have a Superman growing up here in the valley!

For kids looking to leap over hurdles, climb up obstacles and roll into a safe landing, the Action Education crew’s superhero sessions are an exciting and safe way to work with professional acrobats to learn the basics of the sport of parkour.

Sustainable Macleay

I was thrilled to attend the recent Sustainability Forum, hosted by the Macleay Living Sustainably group. In the coming months Council will be doing a great deal of engagement on sustainability and our natural environment and we want to hear from you. Keep an eye on yoursay.macleay.nsw.gov.au and sign up to get involved.
