Kempsey is that much more beautiful since we unveiled the Corroboree Magic mosaic outside Westpac last week.

It was a very special day, marking the end of Reconciliation Week with the final step of a 15 year journey for this beautiful, community made artwork which began with hundreds of kids at Croc Fest in 2005.

I love the name Corroboree Magic, and how it gives us a new place in Kempsey where we can come together and admire this magnificent piece of art, made by the community, for the community.

I heartily recommend you all take the next chance to pause and admire this genuinely magical addition to Smith St in the Kempsey CBD.

Showcasing sustainability

Last Saturday was another delightful day at the Riverside Markets, a wonderful community day out with music, great food and the perfect atmosphere to catch up with friends and family.

It was particularly inspiring to see the markets acknowledging World Environment Day with Macleay Living Sustainably hosting a sustainability showcase of goods, skills, knowledge and services that can help us all live more sustainable lives.

If you missed it, keep an eye out for The Sustainability Forum on Saturday 19 June at Melville High School. There's a great line up of powerful speakers, workshops, food, entertainment and nature-based kids craft. You can find more info and book tickets at www.macleaylivingsustainably.com.au

It is easy to take our monthly markets for granted, yet when I think back to a year ago when Coronavirus had prevented the markets occurring, or when I read news of lockdowns still occurring in our country, I can’t help but think how much we need to savour these opportunities.

Talents on display

Another such opportunity to savour is the 2021 Kempsey Eisteddfod held between 20 June and 4 July.

The annual Kempsey Eisteddfod has provided the Macleay Valley community with a stage to display their talents through speech, drama, instruments and dance for decades. I can’t wait to see all the talented performers on the stage, but they need some help.

Kempsey Eisteddfod Society is a volunteer run community group and they are looking for keen individuals to help them stage the event.

To volunteer (no experience required) head to the Kempsey Eisteddfod Society’s Facebook Page or email kempseyeisteddfod@hotmail.com.
