Whether Kempsey Shire residents have a candidate in mind or are looking to run as a candidate themselves, the upcoming Local Government Election is an excellent opportunity to voice the interests of the community.

With the September election just around the corner, residents have the chance to not only vote in the future Councillors but to run as a candidate themselves and work with Council to serve the local community.

Participating in the Local Government Election on Saturday 4 September is when Kempsey Shire Council area residents can have their say on who will be elected Kempsey Shire Council Mayor and Councillors for the next term.

With voting compulsory, Kempsey Shire Council Manager Governance & Information Services, Daniel Thoroughgood, is encouraging voters to check that their enrolment is up to date through the New South Wales Electoral Commission website and to think about what value they would like to see from Council.

“The Local Government Election decides our Councillors for the next three years and electing strong community leaders who are exceedingly capable of guiding Council in making the best decisions is vital.”

Running as a candidate for Council is also an exciting opportunity to make a difference and represent the interests of residents.

“Council is encouraging residents from all walks of life to run as a candidate and if you are passionate about your local community then you are already the ideal candidate. We recommend visiting the New South Wales Electoral Commission’s website to understand the process involved.” said Mr Thoroughgood.

“As we get closer to the election, I would like to thank the current Councillors for their commitment and devotion to the community over the last five years.”
