Macleay moves to the next stage of flood recovery

As evidenced in the weeks after the recent floods, the people of the Macleay are more resilient than most.

This community is strong and focused on rebuilding and has largely passed the need for emergency assistance. This requires the service providers who are helping to adapt and respond.

Staffed by Council, charities and Resilience NSW, Kempsey Shire Council’s Recovery Hub on Elbow St has been a shoulder to lean on amongst the devastation and uncertainty for residents adversely affected by the recent one in a one-hundred-year flood event.

The Recovery Hub has offered disaster assistance to residents inside its doors, as well as providing recovery outreach meetings around the Macleay Valley to help reach vulnerable residents unable to attend the Hub in person.

As we enter a new phase in the recovery process, the Recovery Hub has altered its model, and will be open by appointment only on Mondays and Tuesdays moving forward. The doors will still be open to all in need from Wednesday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm.

“This will allow the Recovery Hub team to focus on working on cases currently on file and transition to the traditional approach of recovery support through individual service providers”, Council’s Recovery Coordinator Jo McGoldrick said.

“The first point of contact remains Council’s customer service team on 6566 3200 who can provide direction to the appropriate service.”

The services and charities found at the Recovery Hub are all still available through their traditional locations. For all recovery information head to ksc.pub/recovery.
