Access 3 through to Hat Head beach

Kempsey Shire Council will upgrade two beach access points at Hat Head to rectify erosion and deterioration of the paths condition from a series of coastal storms.

Recent weather has severely impacted the state of the sand dunes where beach accesses one and three through to Hat Head beach are located, raising concerns over potential public safety issues.

Council consulted with Hat Head Surf Life Saving Club on the designs to ensure the upgrades address all concerns regarding community and surf lifesaving use.

Kempsey Shire Council Senior Natural Resources Officer, Ron Kemsley, said that these works would improve safety, access and aid beach dune stabilisation.

“Improving the access points will not only ensure beachgoers can get to the beach safely but also assist surf lifesaving services to transport equipment to the beach,” said Mr Kemsley.

“These works will also help to protect the access points against future coastal erosion and improve the sites’ ability to recover following coastal storm events.”

Works have been planned to minimise impact on beachgoers and will commence on 12 July 2021 and it expected to take around 2 weeks to complete.
